The light bulb is one of the most important electrical inventions of all time. But did you know that Thomas Edison wasn’t the first to invent it? Here’s a quick history of how the light bulb came to light.
Before Edison
Many inventors tried to create a working light bulb before Thomas Edison perfected his design in 1879. In fact, Sir Humphry Davy invented the first electric light in 1800, but it was too bright and short-lived for everyday use.
Edison’s Breakthrough
Thomas Edison’s breakthrough was using a carbon filament that could glow for more than 1,200 hours. This made electric lighting practical and affordable, changing the world forever.
The Future of Lighting
Today, we’ve moved on from incandescent bulbs to energy-efficient options like LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). LEDs use far less energy and last much longer than Edison’s original bulbs, making them the standard for modern homes and businesses
